The Anti-Narcotic Cell of Mumbai police Crime Branch on Tuesday, October 19, arrested a woman for allegedly peddling seven kilograms of heroin in the city.

According to reports, the Ghatkopar Unit of Anti-Narcotics Cell arrested the accused from the Sion area in Mumbai. The value of the recovered drug is said to be around INR 22 crores.

The drugs seized includes cocaine, heroin, hashish, MD, cannabis as well as drug pills and a large quantity of cough syrup.

Meanwhile, it has also come to light that large quantities of narcotics are shipped across the country from Pratapgad area in Rajasthan.

A campaign is being run by the Mumbai Police against the drugs mafias. Under this campaign, this huge cache of heroin has been recovered. The police have also arrested drug peddlers in connection with the seizure.

The main accused in this case has been identified as Amina Sheikh. This woman has been smuggling drugs for the last 10 years. There are already 2 cases registered against this woman. Earlier in 2015 and 2018, action has been taken against the accused woman. Even then the Mumbai Police had arrested this woman earlier.

On October 10, three persons were arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for trying to smuggle 25.45 kg of heroin into India.

According to officials, the accused concealed the contrabands in five cans of mustard oil which arrived at Nhava Sheva port in Navi Mumbai from Afghanistan via Chabahar port in Iran.

Following a tip-off, the DRI searched the port and seized the narcotics. Officials said the accused told the customs officials that the containers carry sesame seed oil and mustard oil. After the examination of the material, it was later found that the material was narcotics.

In the first eight months this year, Mumbai Police and Anti-Narcotics Squad have arrested 3,575 accused and seized drugs worth INR 87 crores. Police have focused on nabbing the accused from drug suppliers to drug addicts to break the chain of drug trafficking.
