Mumbai: FDA seized 209 kg of Mawa worth 52k ahead of Diwali festival

In view of Diwali in Mumbai, the Food and Drug Administration has taken major action. Ghee and a large quantity of mawa have been seized. The raid was conducted at Brijwasi Mawawala's shop on Carter Road No. 7 in Mumbai's western suburb Borivali East. The raid was conducted due to lack of labeling and unhygienic storage of the product. The raid was conducted due to doubts regarding the exact price, expiry date or quality of the product from where it was procured.


Among the seized goods, ghee of Gokul Company and 209 kg of sweet mawa worth INR 52,270 have been seized. Samples of the seized liquor have been sent to the FDA lab for testing and further action will be taken after the report comes. During the festive season, large quantities of sweet mawa are brought to Mumbai from Maharashtra and outside the state. Often it is adulterated and there have been cases of many people suffering from such sweets made from mawa.

Therefore, on the eve of Diwali, FDA takes action against such adulterated goods. The Food and Drug Administration received information about unhygienic storage of mawa at Brijwasi Mawawala's shop at Carter Road No. 7, Borivali East in the western suburbs of Mumbai. According to the information, this action was taken under the guidance of Food Safety Officer GM Gaikwad under the guidance of Assistant Commissioner AN Ranjane and Assistant Commissioner Aadhav.
