According to the latest reports, Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey has commenced an inquiry into the conduct of two police officers in the probe of the Dharavi gang rape case. The police officers have reportedly been accused of wrongly arresting two teenage brothers without concrete evidence.

Based on accounts, on Friday, May 27, the brothers, Anil Chouhan (19) and Nilesh Chouhan (20) were released on bail of personal bonds of INR 15,000 each by the Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate court. This comes after the Dharavi police filled an application to discharge them under CrPC 169.

It has been reported that on May 16, the Dharavi police had cracked the case and nabbed the brothers. However, the police discharged them following a preliminary inquiry conducted by Vishwas Nangre Patil, the joint commissioner of police (law and order) brought to light that the two who were nabbed on the charges of rape were present elsewhere during the time of the crime.

A senior officer was quoted in narratives elaborating on how the family presented a video of them at Vile Parle, however, the crime scene is at Dharavi. Therefore, a conclusion can be drawn that they were not present at both places at the same time. Upon its verification, the boys were discharged.

Earlier, reports had claimed that the brothers had come to Dharavi for a relative's wedding. They are claimed to have followed the girl after which they entered her house. Accounts allege that while the younger brother at knifepoint sexually assaulted the girl, the elder made a video. Following the crime, they allegedly threatened her and fled.
