On Thursday, December 31, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray directed the authorities to submit a comprehensive proposal with regards to building a better accommodation space for the Police in the state to ensure maximum efficiency.

A presentation was made by the Maharashtra Police Housing Corporation in a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister in a bid to provide accommodation to the police. Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde, Chief Secretary Sanjay Kumar, Principal Advisor to the Chief Minister Ajoy Mehta, Additional Chief Secretary to the Home Department Sitaram Kunte, Additional Chief Secretary to the Finance Department Manoj Sounik, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Ashish Kumar Singh addressed the meeting.

Additional Chief Secretary of Home Department Manukumar Srivastava, Principal Secretary to CM Vikas Kharge, Principal Secretary of Urban Development Mahesh Pathak, Principal Secretary of Housing Department, SVR Srinivasan, Managing Director of Maharashtra State Police Housing Corporation and Director General of Police Bipin Bihari were also present on the occasion.

According to sources, the meeting discussed various options such as giving concessions to private developers who build houses for the police, providing accommodation by giving concessions in the reservation of residential areas in the proposed redevelopment project, development of Home Department premises in the state through Police Housing Corporation and providing seed capital to the corporation. Moreover, the redevelopment of the residential buildings on MHADA plots was also discussed.

In a statement, Home Minister Shri. Deshmukh stated that as much accommodation was provided for the police in the pre-independence period, in comparison, after independence, not many houses were made available. Therefore, there is a need to provide accommodation in comparison to police manpower.
