After allegedly hacking the passport verification system of the Mumbai police, a 27-year-old man was arrested. The accused, a civil engineer by profession, to avoid being caught cleared the passport inquiry for three applicants, including his wife's. Raja Babu Shah, who is in judicial custody now, was arrested in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. It is believed that he was trying to impress his wife, who wanted to travel abroad for a job.

The documents of the accused's wife were in order, the police said. However, now her passport has been put on hold. After the police traced the IP address (to access the passport verification system), the accused was caught with a device in Noida.

The incident took place on September 24 which was a holiday and the passport branch was officially shut. At Azad Maidan police station the police have registered a case against the accused, under various sections of the Information Technology Act, for forgery of valuable security and theft.
