Amidst the Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis, we have come across several corona-heroes, who have been relentlessly serving the community with their duties. There are doctors, other medical staff at hospitals, municipal corporation staff, police officers and others who are working day and night for the betterment of our society. They keep the common man safe during the outbreak. However, in many cases, we have noticed that these members are being harassed for several reasons.

Mumbai Live has recently found out that a policeman from Dharavi had to face a similar demoralizing incident where the residents of his society denied him entry. The resident of Kalyan's  Hinwat Society was not allowed to enter the society on Friday, due to the coronavirus scare and reports state that certain members of his society insulted and abused the police officer and also damaged his car. His family has been living in fear and it is disturbing to know that the local Khadakpada police station has not taken note of the incident

Narrating the incident, the officer from Dharavi police station (chose to remain anonymous) said that he is a resident of Meher Nagar CHS in Kalyan and has been living with his wife and son since 2010. Upon knowing the details of coronavirus spread in Dharavi, members of his society started talking about him and his family. Though he didn't pay much attention at first, the officer decided to come forward as the discussion gained momentum and their behaviour changed. Observing this, his family stopped leaving the house and he started returning home late. However, the trouble increased and the members damaged his car, hoping that he would not stay in the society. As the matter got out of hand, he reached out to the president of the society who did not offer help.

Upon being insulted, abused and pushed, he approached the nearby Khadakpada police station in Kalyan West to lodge a complaint. At first, the police station did not register his complaint, but the drama lasted long and police intervened in the matter.

He further stated that if only a police officer is working to protect civilians safe amidst the Corona epidemic, this form of treatment is not acceptable and justified. The behaviour from the society members has put the officer and his family under mental stress. Neither he nor his wife and child have any symptoms of the coronavirus, but despite that, they have to face such unfortunate circumstances.

Further investigation is under process.
