Hiren Mansukh, owner of the vehicle with explosives which had been found parked near industrialist Mukesh Ambani's residence last week, was found dead in a creek in neighbouring Thane on Friday, March 5, police said.

However, there is a new twist in the story. Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said the deceased was not the real owner of the vehicle.

The car is owned by one Sam Newton who gave it to Mansukh Hiren for interior work. The car was in Hiren's possession since long as Newton couldn't pay bill of some INR 1-1.5 lakh. In his statement to the police Hiren stated that car belongs to him.

The Crime Branch of Mumbai police had recorded Mansukh's statement in the case. Mansukh, who was in the vehicle spare parts business, had said he had lodged a police complaint after the SUV was stolen.

According to the latest report, the case has been transferred to Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), said Maharashtra Home Minister.

"The body of Mansukh Hiren has been found in Mumbra. The cause of death will be ascertained through postmortem. It will be done by a technical team. We have given the responsibility of this investigation to ATS," Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh told media persons.

Meanwhile, senior police official stated that the postmortem of Mansukh Hiren has been done, but the details will be given out after getting the report.

Moreover, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis demanded a probe by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the matter.

Addressing media after reports about the suicide of Mansukh Hiran, the owner of the explosives-laden vehicle found outside Antilia surfaced, Fadnavis said, "I had demanded the security for Hiran in the Legislative Assembly today along with the NIA probe in the matter. Now after the suicide of Hiran, the suspicion intensifies. I demand an NIA probe in the matter."

"The owner of the car was at Mumbai's Crawford market for shopping but his car was stolen. Assistant Police Inspector (API) Sachin Waze who found the car, and the owner of the car Hiren were in talks, he was from thane and this car also came from thane. All this is suspicious so the owner of the car must be given protection," Fadnavis added.

Maharashtra Police on Friday said an unknown male corpse was found in Retibunder Creek on Retibunder road in Mumbra (w). Later the corpse was identified as Mansukh Hiran, a resident of Thane whose vehicle with gelatin sticks was found parked on Carmichael Road near Mukesh Ambani's residence Antilia. Police said prima facie it appears that Hiran died by suicide.

According to sources, a handwritten "threat letter" in "broken English" addressed to Mukesh Ambani and his wife Neeta Ambani was also found in the vehicle with explosives.

The suspect who parked the car was seen in CCTV footage but has not been identified as he was wearing a face mask and his head was covered with a hoodie, said Mumbai Police.

Mumbai Police has deployed its personnel outside Ambani's house after explosive materials were found.
