In an alarming case of electricity theft that had been going on under the closed covers for the past 11 years in a restaurant has finally been brought to light. The owner of the restaurant Status Restaurant and Bar, Shekhar Narayan Shetty along with his partner in crime Ranchhor Patel have been nabbed in the case by the Mahim Police. The quantum of electricity that has been stolen by them is as huge as 19, 97,040 units. As a matter of fact they have been stealing electricity from cabin no. 631/288 for the past 11 years for which the complainant BEST have slapped them with a penalty of 4.85 crores.
More so, there have been cases in the past where stealing of electricity has been going on but in different forms, but this was by far, the biggest one that has been recorded hitherto, considering the amount of electricity that was stolen.
On the other hand, both the accused have been booked under the section 135 of the related law.
