Four people in Mumbai arrested for selling newborns

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused had already sold two sons and a daughter in Pune, Dadar and Dharavi respectively. The arrested accused include two mothers. The Crime Branch had received information that a was selling newborns.

A Crime Branch team has arrested four persons, including three women, for selling newborns. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused had already sold two sons and a daughter in Pune, Dadar and Dharavi respectively. The arrested accused include two mothers.

The police of Room-1 of the Crime Branch had received information that a gang was selling newborns for money. According to police, Ruksar Sheikh, 28, gave birth to a baby boy on December 1 at a well-known hospital in Santa Cruz. After the investigated, it was revealed that Sheikh had sold the boy in Pune for INR 1.5 lakhs. After finding out that the sale was done with the help of Rupali Sharma (30), the police arrested the two and interrogated them.

Over a year ago, Sheikh had given birth to a girl and sold her in Dadar for INR 60,000. Similarly, Shahjahan Jogilkar (19) had given birth to a child in 2019.  It was found that the newborn was sold in Dharavi for INR 60,000 through Sharma. After finding out that the baby was given to Sanjay Pandal (44), the Crime Branch team arrested both Shahjahan and Sanjay. A case has been registered against the accused under 370 (4), 34.

A team has been sent to Pune to investigate the matter, while the Crime Branch is interrogating Sheikh to get information about the boy. It is suspected that the gang also sold other children in the same manner. The gang, which sells children to poor women, is likely to have more members and police are looking for them.
