According to the latest reports, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has filed an FIR against an e-commerce company for selling abortion medicines without a prescription.

Based on accounts, the FDA placed an order on Amazon and found that the abortion medicine was available under the brand name A-Kare.

On Monday, May 2, the FDA reportedly elaborated on how the demand for the medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) pill was accepted by the website without the needed prescription of a registered medical practitioner.

It has been reported that the authority added that they received the “A-Kare” tablet, but not a bill. Later the FDA contacted the e-commerce site upon which the company informed them that the medicine was supplied from Odisha.

However, accounts claim that the FDA found discrepancies in this too. An official from the FDA was quoted in narratives elaborating on how the seller id was registered by another individual on the portal by means of documents of the claimed drug store.

The official elucidated that in accordance with the MTP Act, it is compulsory to utilize this drug at a health facility as well as under the supervision of a service provider.

Narratives suggest that the MTP kit is a scheduled drug that can only be sold with a prescription from a registered medical practitioner.
