PNB Scam: Fugitive Businessmen Mehul Choksi surrenders Indian passport to escape prosecution

In Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam, the main accused Mehul Choksi has surrendered his Indian citizenship in a bid to escape the prosecution. The fugitive Choksi, on Monday gave up his Indian passport in Antigua. 

This happened after the Indian government was trying to extradite Choksi from Antigua through diplomatic and legal means. However, with Choksi surrendering his passport, it will be difficult for the government to go after him.  

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday said that all the fugitives including Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi, Mukul Choksi will be extradited like Christian Michel. Javadekar blamed the UPA government for providing them with unsecured loans.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Joint Secretary, Amit Narang informed the Home Ministry regarding the same. Prime Minister Office (PMO) has sought progress report from MEA, and investigating agencies in the Choksi case.
