Custom officials seizes gold bars worth one crore 77 lakhs at Mumbai airport

Airport Intelligence Unit seized 12 gold bars of 100 grams each totally weighing 1200 grams valued at Rs.36,45,600/-.Customs department has intercepted a passenger Thiruppathy Palaniyandy, a resident of Sathiyamangalam, Dist. Pudukkottai (Tamil Nadu) who had arrived from Singapore by Air India flight # AI 343. He was found carrying 12 gold bars of 100 grams each totally weighing 1200 grams valued at Rs.36,45,600/-. The passenger had concealed the said gold bars by sticking it on his foot soles, six gold bars on each foot with the help of adhesive and two socks worn over it. A case has been booked.

Palaniyandy works as an architectural supervisor in one construction firm in Singapore and earns Rs. 150000/- per month. He has admitted carrying gold belonged to one Mr. Muru of Singapore to be handed over to someone in Mumbai.
