A special court in Dindoshi on Thursday convicted artist Chintan Upadhyay in the murder of his estranged wife Hema Upadhyay and her lawyer Haresh Bhambani. The court found Chintan guilty of conspiring to kill Hema and her lawyer. The court will decide on his sentence on Saturday.

As per the report by Hindustan Times, the Additional sessions judge SY Bhosale convicted Vijay Kumar Rajbhar also convicted Shiv Kumar Rajbhar, Pradeep Kumar Rajbhar and Vijay Kumar Rajbhar for killing the two at Chintan Upadhyay’s order.

The court convicted the trio of killing Hema and her lawyer along with Chintan on the charge of murder. The accused have also killed a lawyer in this case. This is an attack on the judiciary. Therefore, the government prosecutor told the court that death sentence would be sought for the accused.

Unable to solve the murders of Hema and her lawyer, the police took advantage of their marital discord. Chintan had also claimed that he was targeted and framed in this case while presenting his statement as an accused on the evidence presented by the government party against him in the court. After the arrest, the police forced his confession. Upadhyay had also claimed that the police tortured him a lot for that.


Hema and Bhambani were murdered on December 11, 2015. Also, their bodies were kept in a box and thrown at Kandivali. While the prime accused Vidyadhar Rajbhar was absconding, the police had arrested Upadhyay on suspicion of conspiring to kill Hema. Upadhyay wanted to end the matrimonial dispute. That is why the police alleged that he had conspired to kill Hema. Upadhyay was granted bail by the Supreme Court after spending six years in jail.
