The state government clarified that had no plans of overturning its decision to conduct the Maharashtra State Board exams offline despite of students holding protests in parts of the state, including Mumbai.

Mumbai Police on Tuesday, February 1, arrested Youtuber Hindustani Bhau aka Vikas Phatak for allegedly instigating students to protest over their demand for online exams for classes 10 and 12 in the view of the pandemic.

FIR has been registered against Hindustani Bhau and others under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including that of rioting, Maharashtra Police Act, Disaster Management Act and Maharashtra Prevention of Defacement of Property Act.

Moreover, Dharavi Police has also arrested one Iqrar Khan Vakhar Khan in the matter.

This action was taken after on Monday, January 31, around 1,000 to 1,500 students gathered outside the Dharavi residence of state School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad between 12 pm to 4 pm to press their demands.

Police said the crowd gradually swelled around 3 pm, when many students from far- off places like Thane, Kalyan, Badlapur, Vasai, Virar and places in Navi Mumbai reached the spot using local trains.

In addition, students in Nagpur had also protested. 200-odd students protested in Ajni in Nagpur. The students blocked the road and also broke the glass of a private bus by pelting stones.

Police responded with a mild baton charge to stop them from moving towards the minister's residence in the vicinity.

If reports are to be believed, Phatak had uploaded a video of him on Instagram, allegedly instigating students. The police official said that Hindustani Bhau and others were responsible for the gathering of students.

Besides, another police official said that Hindustani Bahu had visited the Dharavi police station requesting the police to not stop students from reaching Gaikwad's residence.
