In one of the major accomplishments today, 2.5 million masks filled in three trucks were seized by the Mumbai Police (Unit 9). Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said here on Tuesday, said that these masks were worth ₹15 crores and were being taken illegally, by a gang of four members.

"The masks were being hoarded by the gang and were intended for sale in the black market. The seizure includes over 325,000 N-49 masks, plus others of different varieties," Deshmukh told the media

In the current COVID-19 outbreak, the state if facing many issues where one of the prime problems is the unavailability of masks. People across Maharashtra have observed that there is a shortage of masks and this operation would help in solving the problem to a bit.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh received a tip-off last week, where the gang had made plans to hoard the masks and sell it for a higher price. Upon knowing the same, Mahesh Desai, Senior Inspector of Police in the Crime Branch department, laid a trap. With the team, he managed to bust the gang by posing as a customer and understanding their locations between Mumbai and Thane.

The Police have arrested all the four members and two more members, who were a part of the crime have absconded. The team is on a lookout for them.

As of March 24, 2020, the state has observed a total of 101 COVID19 positive cases and the government officials are trying their best to improve the situation, thereby curb the spread of Coronavirus in the state. Upon CM Uddhav Thackeray's decision, the entire state is under a curfew until March 31, 2020.
