On December 8, various political parties in the opposition had taken to streets to protest the Centre's farm bills after the farmers union called for a nationwide shutdown. In Mumbai, political leaders from the MVA government were seen protesting and blocking the roads. However, due to the vigilance of the police, no untoward incident took place anywhere in the city, said the Mumbai Police.

According to reports, additional police manpower was deployed in the city against the backdrop of the Bharat Bandh in Mumbai. Nearly, 94 police officers in the city were instructed to remain vigilant, and additional police reinforcements were deployed on important places and roads in each area of that falls under the police station.

The situation was monitored from the main control room with the help of CCTV cameras installed in Mumbai. Moreover, police had deployed an additional of 600 police personnel against the backdrop of the Bharat Bandh, said an official.

However, the Bharat Bandh got a mixed response in Mumbai as several shopkeepers kept their shops closed to support the agitation. Meanwhile, the Dadar’s flower market – which is known to be the busiest street, seemed unaffected with vegetable and flower vendors running their businesses as usual.

The APMC market located in Navi Mumbai’s Vashi area was shut on December 8. However, public transport was not disrupted. BEST buses, taxis and autos were operational as usual.
