It has come to light that young people from India are being lured to work in illegal call centres in Laos with the lure of well-paying jobs in Thailand. The accused were cyber-defrauding citizens of America, Europe and Canada through call centres. After complaining to the Indian lawyer there, these youths were released and on the complaint of one of them, a case was registered in Mumbai and the crime branch is investigating the matter further.


The complainant is a Thane resident. Based on his complaint, a case has been registered against Jerry Jacob, God Free and Sunny residing in Laos at the Vile Parle Police Station under various sections of threatening to kill, extortion, and cheating.


A relative of the complainant was working in a five star hotel in Vile Parle. Through them, the complainant was introduced to brokers who were employed abroad. They took 30 thousand rupees from the complainant by offering a job in Thailand for 65 thousand rupees. He was then sent to Thailand. From there, the complainant and other Indian youths who had gone there illegally were taken to the country of Laos with the help of a boat.

There, these youths were forced to work in a call centre where cyber fraud was committed in the name of giving them a task. About 30 Indian youths were working there. Oppressive conditions were imposed on them and their salaries were deducted. Tired of the usual interrogation, the youth contacted the Indian lawyer there and told all this. After that, the accused took away their mobile phones. They also pressured him to withdraw the complaint made to the Indian Attorney General. They were tied to a chair and their mobile phones were taken away. The accused also deleted all the details in the mobile phone.

The accused extorted 200 Chinese Yuan as ransom from the complainant. Finally, four youths have been brought back to India from there through the local Indian lawyer. A case has been registered against the accused after returning to India in this matter and the Cell-8 of the Crime Branch is conducting further investigation in this matter.
