Jogeshwari car accident update: 24-year-old girl remains critical; driver booked for rash driving

On December 30, 2018, 24-year-old Sayali Rane was hit by a speeding car on Jogeshwari-Vikhroli link road (JVLR) in Andheri East. Rane is now in a critical condition and the driver has been sent a notice by MIDC police. 

According to the police, the incident took place around 4:30 pm near Durga Nagar junction on the west-bound stretch of the link road. The entire incident was caught on CCTV camera and the video went viral on social media.

Jogeshwari resident Sayali Rane was heading home from college and was walking along the road side when the speeding car driven by 65-year-old Vishwajeet Hate hit her. The car then crashed into a pole.

According to the police, the woman was rushed to a nearby hospital where she continued to remain critical, but stable. Police booked Hate, a businessman, for rash driving and causing grievous injuries under section 279 and 338 of the IPC. The police informed that Hate wasn't under the influence of alcohol while driving. 

The car's tyre had burst, causing Hate to lose control of his car. The RTO will now inspect the vehicle. For now, Hate has been served a notice and will be soon be arrested.
