5-storey Bhole Apartment's staircase collapsed at Khar on Tuesday, September 24. 10-year old Mahi Motwani was trapped under the debris and succumbed to her injuries before reaching Lilavati Hospital. The incident has left two other people injured.

On Wednesday, September 25, the police arrested the contractor Rajeev Sawant (35) and booked him under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for causing death due to negligence. Sawant knew that the building was prone to collapse and yet carried out the renovation work.
The renovation work was underway on the ground and fourth floor and the residents complained about vibrations. It has been stated that the renovation work might have triggered the collapse and Sawant will be soon presented in the court.
