Khar building collapse: 10-year-old dies, 2 others injured

In a tragic incident, 10-year-old Mahi Motvani died in the Khar building collapse incident. At around 1:15 PM, the staircase of the building in Khar West collapsed. While initially it was presumed that there were no casualties, but later during the search operation conducted by NDRF officials and fire brigade officials, it was found out that the 10-year-old was trapped under the debris.

She was immediately taken to the Lilavati Hospital but the doctors declared her brought dead at the hospital. Apart from her, two other citizens have been injured in this incidence are being treated at Lilavati Hospital. NDRF has rescued 21 citizens from the building. 

According to the locals, the repair work for being conducted for the building under a renovation project. The five-storey building is situated at the 17th Road Area in Khar.

Previously, in the past the 15 days, Mumbai has witnessed collapsed of two buildings in different parts of the island city.

One of them was the Ahmed building in Fort near Lokmanya Tilak Road which is a 4-storey building, opposite the office of Commissioner of Police. No casualties were reported as the authorities were successful in rescuing all the residents.

On the other hand, a part of 3-storeyed Yusuf building near Crawford Market collapsed on September 10. The fire brigade rushed to the spot and cleared the debris and safely rescued two people who were trapped inside the debris. 

This does raise questions about the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) as well as concerned authorities inefficiency to ensure safety for the city's residents.
