Malad police have arrested two people who demanded ransom from couples outside hotels in Marve. Sandesh Maladkar (44) and Sachin Kharvi (37) who claimed to be police officers, used to get hold of couples outside the hotel to blackmail them and extort money. Around 10 couples have fallen prey to them so far.

A shopkeeper residing in Malad had gone to the hotel with his partner where he experienced a similar situation, where the accused blackmailed him by saying that they'll inform his wife about the incident. They demanded ₹20,000 from the shopkeeper and only left after he paid ₹12,000 and agreed to pay the rest later. However, the shopkeeper got to know that such incidences have occurred in the past and therefore, lodged a complaint with Malad police station.

According to the information provided by hotel owners, the police arrested the accused. Maladkar and Kharvi are residents of Nallasopara and Thane respectively and are currently under four-day police custody.
