After the media picked up on the mistreatment of a rape victim by Maharashtra Home Minister Deepak Kesarkar, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday ordered an inquiry into the matter.

Earlier on Monday, after the woman approached the state home minister to seek help from him over the atrocities committed against her, she was thrown out from the minister’s office while the minister yelled at her saying, “What’s your worth, don’t talk much.”

As this happened, the woman registered a complaint against Deepak Kesarkar with Marine Drive Police for being disrespectful to her situation. However, after the news was published in various local dailies, CM Fadnavis ordered DGP Datta Padsalgikar and directed him to investigate the matter.

Earlier on May 2017, the woman and her minor daughter were gang-raped by seven men after being drugged. The woman, who belongs from Kalyan, informed that she approached the state home minister for help earlier and Kesarkar assured her justice.

The woman said that after the incident the accused did not stop to threaten her and therefore, she had to change her house five times in just six months. Of seven accused, the police have registered the complaint against only one due to the political pressure.
