A study conducted by KEM Hospital has revealed that many women lose their lives due to domestic violence. This study has shown that the rate of violence against women is highest due to domestic reasons. 6,190 medico-legal cases were studied in May 2022. Many incidents of violence against women have come to light through medical analysis.

Out of 1,467 post-mortem reports referred to the hospital, 840 i.e. 57.3 per cent women died of unnatural causes. Among the 181 cases of violence, 67 percent of the women were married, 53.29 percent were unmarried, and 7.4 percent were divorced and separated from their husbands. Out of these 58 women died due to burning, while 20 percent women were hanged, 16 percent women were poisoned. Three percent of the women had fallen from a height, while six percent of the women were found to have been seriously beaten. Medicines and chemicals were used in 38 percent of deaths, while 35 percent of deaths were due to smoke and fire. The study found that 24 percent of deaths were due to unarmed assaults.

The study found that 66.58 percent of women died due to marital problems, 33.29 percent due to domestic disputes, and 15.13 percent due to relationship stress, failed love affairs. Women who tried to commit suicide by hanging, jumping from a height had a hospital stay of less than a day. In 69 out of 114 cases, the husband or partner was found to be responsible for the woman's death. In 35 percent of the cases, other family members were reported to have caused the death.
