In a concerning development, the Mumbai crime branch has made an arrest in Pune, apprehending a suspect accused of issuing a death threat to Sharad Pawar, the chief of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), through the popular social media platform. The arrest comes after Pawar, an influential political figure, received a menacing message that raised alarm bells. The Mumbai police swiftly launched an investigation, resulting in the apprehension of the suspect, identified as Sagar Barve, a 35-year-old employee at a prominent software company.

The Mumbai crime branch acted swiftly, leading to the arrest of Sagar Barve in Pune. On Sunday, Barve was produced in court and subsequently remanded in police custody until June 13. The court appearance marked the beginning of a thorough investigation into the matter, aimed at determining the motive behind the death threat issued to Pawar.
Intensive Investigation
Gathering Technical Details While the suspect is in custody, the police are gathering crucial technical details related to the case. The Cyber police are meticulously analyzing the evidence to support the investigation. A senior crime branch officer stated that once the technical details are obtained, they will proceed to question Barve to unravel the reasons behind the menacing threat.
Complaint Registered by NCP Leader's Daughter
Supriya Sule, the daughter of Sharad Pawar and a prominent NCP leader, promptly raised the issue after her father received the death threat on social media. Sule, accompanied by a delegation of NCP leaders, met with Vivek Phansalkar, the Mumbai police commissioner, to bring the matter to his attention. As a result, a case was registered at the LT Marg police station under relevant sections of the law.
Investigation Progresses
During the investigation, the Mumbai crime branch discovered that Sagar Barve was using the Facebook account linked to the threatening message. Additionally, another derogatory remark against Sharad Pawar surfaced on Twitter. The authorities are actively working with the Cyber police and multiple police teams to identify and apprehend any other individuals involved in the case.
