Mumbai Police arrest two people betting on Sri Lanka-England ODI matches

The betting on the ongoing Sri Lanka-England ODI series was happening through a website called ‘LOTUS’. The police got the information about betting at Tilak Nagar and accordingly, retrieved 17 mobile phones and a laptop from the flat.

Cricket is referred to as a gentleman’s game and on various instances, the statement has lived to the expectations. However, on the other hand, the game is maligned with misdeeds such as betting and match-fixing and in a similar instance, Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch arrested two people from Tilak Nagar while betting on an England-Sri Lanka ODI match.

On Tuesday, the crime branch arrested Ankit Kothari (28) and Hemant Jain (42) from Tilak Nagar while they were betting on the Sri Lanka-England ODI match through a website called ‘LOTUS’. The police had received information about a betting stint happening at Tilak Nagar’s Shivam Vaastu building. Accordingly, the police caught the accused duo red-handed in the act.

It was revealed that Kothari is a resident of Ghatkopar whereas Jain resides in Govandi. The police have recovered 17 mobile phones along with a laptop from the apartment and found out that betting was being conducted through the online site LOTUS.

Meanwhile, the police revealed that amongst the phones retrieved from the accused, five of the mobiles consist of sim cards registered to someone else’s name. Accordingly, they are conducting an investigation and the laptop has been sent to a forensic lab for examination.
