Mumbai: Customs officials arrest nine foreign women in a gold smuggling case worth INR 10cr

The customs department has arrested nine foreign women from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in connection with the smuggling of gold worth around INR 10 crore. 18 kg gold was seized from the accused women. The officer said that a case has been registered against the accused women under the Customs Act. This is the second incident in a week that such a large number of foreign women have been arrested in connection with gold smuggling.


Nine women who arrived at the Mumbai airport on a Kenya Airways flight were detained by officials of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Customs Department on Tuesday. When asked about smuggling some goods, the women replied in the negative. So they were stopped and put in a room to check their belongings. At that time, the accused women tried to run away from there. They were again detained by AIU officials near the entrance. During the inspection, they found 13 thousand 640 grams of gold of 24 carats. 2340 grams of 21 carat and 1136 grams of 18 carat gold and 1136 grams of gold ornaments were found. A total of 18 kg 280 grams of gold has been seized from the accused women and its value is INR 9.42 crore.

Ardo Noor, Shukri Farah, Kero Jama, Habiba Umar, Ebla Abdulahi, Anab Muhumed, Anisa Mubarak, Isnina Yusuf, Zainab Mohamud were arrested in this case by filing a case under the Customs Act. They do all the work related to textile sales. They are in the age group of 26 to 47. 


This is the second incident in a week that a large number of foreign women have been arrested in connection with gold smuggling at the Mumbai airport. Earlier, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence had arrested 18 women who are citizens of Sudan. Gold worth INR 10 crore was seized from them.
