Bombay High Court had earlier ordered that it is illegal to sell goods such as Gutkha, Beedi, Cigarette, Tobacco, and supari at Paan shops under 100-metre distance from schools and colleges. Despite this, Mumbai Police was constantly getting complaints regarding the same. 

While prosecuting more than 200 Paan shop owners, Mumbai Police seized items worth ₹49 lakh including Gutkha, Tobacco, beedi, and cigarettes. After receiving a lot of complaints, Mumbai Police prosecuted 200 Paan shops in two weeks. 

Earlier in 2003, in the view of increasing addiction in children, Bombay HC heard a petition and declared the sale of tobacco and other related products illegal outside schools and colleges. The violation of the order could invite six years of imprisonment. 

In this case, according to Mumbai Police records, in the year 2017, the police had registered 12687 cases and 13063 people were arrested. In the year 2018, 9323 cases were registered, out of which 9516 people were arrested, now once again, Mumbai Police has got into action mode.

According to the Mumbai Police records, 12,687 cases were registered in this matter in 2017 and 13,063 were arrested. Earlier in 2018, 9,323 cases were registered and 9,516 people were arrested.
