A day after releasing guidelines for the use of loudspeaker, the Mumbai Police said that it is capable of handling every situation. It also assured that within 5 minutes the force will reach the location of any incident.
Elaborating further, the city police stated that sensitive and vulnerable areas of Mumbai city have been identified and 24 hours patrolling is being done.
This development comes after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) supremo Raj Thackeray warned to play Hanuman Chalisa on loudspeakers near mosques on May 3. Additionally, the party workers will perform ‘maha aarti’ at local temples across Maharashtra on the occasion of Akshaya Tritya on May 3, using loudspeakers, on the occasion of Akshaya Tritya.
Meanwhile, the state Home Department stated that the use of loudspeakers at the religious sites will only be allowed with due permission.
Moreover, the security has beefed up outside Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s house after a couple -- Independent MLA Ravi Rana and his wife MP Navneet Rana -- warned of reciting Hanuman Chalisa outside Thackeray’s residence if he did not chant it on Hanuman Jayanti.
Responding to this, Shiv Sena leaders had dared the couple to come to Mumbai to chant Hanuman Chalisa, warning them that they would get a befitting reply from Shiv Sainiks.
While the couple arrived in Mumbai on Friday morning, April 22, a large number of Shiv Sainiks and senior Sena leaders such as party secretary and MP Vinayak Raut, MP Anil Desai and Yuva Sena secretary Varun Sardesai gathered outside the Matoshree residence.
However, Thackeray has called loudspeakers relaying the ‘azaan’ call a social issue and not a religious one. He also said his party does not want to disturb the peace in the society but added that if the use of loudspeakers continues then Muslims will also have to listen to prayers on loudspeakers.
