On Monday, November 22, Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Patil is reported to have announced that the Mumbai police would investigate whether a “fake” case had been registered by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) against Aryan Khan in the drugs-on-cruise case.

According to accounts, Patil’s proclamation came days into the Bombay High Court order which in its order granted bail to Khan. It mentioned that there wasn’t any material evidence of a conspiracy against him.

The Bombay HC had mentioned how there wasn’t enough positive evidence on record to convince it that the accused people had a similar intention of committing an unlawful act.

Patil’s proclamation comes amidst NCP leader, Nawab Malik’s claim that the drugs-on-cruise bust was fake. Malik had accused Sameer Wankhede, the NCB Zonal Director of kidnapping and ransom. In light of the Bombay HC verdict, Malik had sought the suspension of Wankhede too.

Presently, a four-member special investigation team (SIT) headed in the direct supervision of Dilip Sawant, the Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) is investigating the matter. The investigation by the SIT is presently underway.

This is being undertaken in four different complaints of bribery against Wankhede. One of the complainants, Prabhakar Sail, is an independent witness of the NCB in the drugs-on-cruise case.
