Fifth Arrest Made as Auto Driver Apprehended

On Thursday, a significant breakthrough was made by the crime branch as they arrested an auto driver connected to the case. The authorities successfully seized one of the autos that was used in the abduction, further strengthening their investigation. With this latest arrest, the total number of apprehended suspects has now risen to five, marking a significant stride in the case.

Probe Expands, Police Investigating Involvement of Constable

The Mumbai police, in their thorough investigation, are now examining the potential involvement of a police constable affiliated with a nearby police commissionerate. This development aims to shed light on any potential connections and collaborations that may have aided the criminals in carrying out their fraudulent activities.

Mastermind Arrested in Andheri Abduction and Extortion Case

In a separate incident, the Mumbai Crime Branch successfully dismantled a gang responsible for the abduction and extortion of a 27-year-old Andheri resident. The victim, who filed a complaint, became instrumental in the arrest of Deepak Jadhav, the gang's leader. This breakthrough paves the way for a comprehensive investigation into other potential victims who may have fallen victim to similar tactics.

Victim's Terrifying Encounter with Impersonators

According to the victim's harrowing account, he and a friend were waiting at a Versova café on June 30 when four individuals posing as narcotics officers approached them. The imposters falsely claimed that a drug case would be filed against the victim. Threatened with severe consequences, the victim was coerced into accompanying the perpetrators, who forced him into an autorickshaw, followed by another auto. In total, six individuals, including the victim, were involved in the abduction.

Extortion and Harrowing Ordeal

The imposters demanded an exorbitant sum of Rs 50 lakhs from the victim, threatening him with legal consequences. Eventually, the victim was compelled to transfer Rs 5 lakhs through UPI and bank transfers. The perpetrators, aware that adding a beneficiary name to a bank account takes time, held the victim captive for nearly six hours, driving him around various locations in Mumbai. They confiscated his mobile phone before finally releasing him near his residence. However, the ordeal did not end there, as the perpetrators returned to the victim's home, instilling fear in his parents and coercing them into giving a Rs 7 lakh cheque.

Swift Action and Ongoing Investigation

Following the victim's complaint, the crime branch swiftly mobilized their efforts, leading to the arrest of Deepak Jadhav, the mastermind behind the gang responsible for the abduction and extortion. Authorities suspect that numerous other individuals may have fallen victim to this elaborate scam. The police continue their pursuit of the remaining five accomplices involved in the abduction and extortion cases.
