According to a shocking revelation by Praja Foundation, it was stated that Mumbai has witnessed a 22 per cent rise in rapes and 51 per cent in sexual assault. The rise in the number of cases has been reported in between 2014 and 2019.

Notably, out of all these victims, 69 per cent of them were below the age of 18. In addition to this, in 527 cases out of 540, the victims knew the offenders. Founder and Trustee of Praja Foundation Nitai Mehta stated that it is a matter of introspection for the society that children are being abused by people who know them and urgent steps should be taken to address this issue.
