In a recently taken decision, police officials in Mumbai have decided to strengthen security in the city on New Year's Eve to ensure the safety of the citizens on a special occasion. Sharing more information, Assistant Commissioner of Police Vishwas Nagre Patil, in a media conference, informed that over 35,000 police personnel will be deployed on the streets of Mumbai, and this will help prevent any untoward incident on New Year's Eve and also keep a check on citizens to ensure they follow COVID-19 rules imposed by the government.

The state government of Maharashtra and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), last week, imposed the night curfew and have directed hotels and pubs to close at 11 pm. Failing to do this, the authorities will have to face consequences and strict action will be taken regarding the same. Besides this, the civic body has informed that owners who do not comply with the rules, as well as anyone who violates the order, will be prosecuted.

Adding more, Nangre Patil informed that according to the orders of the night curfew, a gathering of more than five people is prohibited. People can step out with their families and in groups of four or less, and no action will be taken, as long as rules are followed strictly. However, despite the restrictions, Mumbaikars will be able to visit popular places like Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Girgaum Chowpatty, Juhu, Gorai and Madh from the evening on December 31. However, they should do it in a small group of four people or less.

Besides this, parties are not allowed on the boat as well as on the terrace. Nagre Patil said that action will be taken against the organizers and the crowd if the rules are violated. Special squads will be deployed at various places to prevent incidents of harassment and Mumbai Police is ready to take action under all circumstances.

The traffic police will also conduct checks to ensure safety, and cases of reckless driving and drink and drive will be noted strictly.
