On Sunday, October 4, a woman aged 19 hanged herself at her Palghar residence after she was raped by a man several times on the pretext of marriage.
As per reports, the family of the deceased has claimed that the woman was depressed after she was neglected and humiliated by the police officials while lodging a complaint against the man.
According to sources, the accused had lured the teen into his house where he raped her multiple times before he made a promise to marry her. However, the police have notified that the accused would ignore the victim soon enough, stating excuses of not being able to marry her as a consequence of the temples being closed during the coronavirus-induced lockdown. Moreover, a suicide note was deciphered from the house which stated that the woman had committed suicide as she was unable to marry him.
The police officials have also notified that two more such "suicide notes" have been found in the woman's notebook, and they are being verified. On the other hand, Deputy Commissioner of Police Vijaykant Sagar said the allegations of the woman's kin with regards to the treatment by the police are being verified as of now and action will be taken against the concerned police station if they are found to be true.
