The Maharashtra government had banned the public celebration of Dahi Handi. However, despite the restrictions, many opposition leaders celebrated the festivities. In this case, nine cases have been registered in Mumbai and two in Thane, stated reports. It is believed that most of the cases are against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena workers.

Despite the curbs in place, on Tuesday morning MNS workers celebrated the festivities. In the afternoon, the said party’s workers attempted to celebrate Dahi Handi in some other places too.

The case was registered in nine police stations namely, Shivaji Park, Kalachowki, Kasturba Marg, Worli, Sakinaka, Ghatkopar, Bhandup, Kherwadi and Parksite. MNS office-bearer Akhil Chitre, who was celebrating Dahi Handi near Matoshri, was arrested by the police and then released on bail.

On Tuesday morning MNS leader Sandeep Deshpande celebrated the festivities on R.K. Vaidya Marg for which police have registered a case against him and six other activists.

In light of this, MNS President Raj Thackeray had held a press conference wherein he is said to have attacked the state government. He elaborated on how people are going out and about, with yatras being held. He believes that the government thinks the virus doesn’t spread during this but does when the festivals arrive. He made a statement on how if temples aren’t opened, the party will agitate.
