A Mumbai-based film actress and self-defence trainer has lodged a complaint on Friday, December 11, against an unidentified man for sexually harassing over a WhatsApp video call.

In the complaint, the actress said that she had received a WhatsApp video call on Friday afternoon, November 11, from an unidentified number with a UK country code, which she disconnected twice. However, she accidentally answered the call third time, only to see that a man was masturbating on the video call. As soon as she realized that, she immediately covered her phone camera, so that she couldn’t be seen. Later, the actress quickly took screenshots of the call to lodge a complaint and hanged up.

The accused then messaged the actress, addressing her by name, on why was she not coming on screen and hiding her face, further stating that she 'liked it' before.

She even posted his messages and video screenshots, tagging Mumbai Police on Twitter. The actress also noticed that the place where he was calling her from appeared to be upscale.

The person started apologising after realising that he might be in trouble when the actress asked the accused as to when do she like it, and demanded an explanation. He claimed that had made a mistake, claiming that someone else was doing this by making a video call in his name. He also claimed that he was a 20-year-old student studying abroad.

Without believing him, the actress said she lodged an FIR at the Versova police station under provisions of the IPC and IT Act. The man kept texting until midnight. Even at the police station, she received an obscene video clip of him and another woman together.

After registering the complaint, it came to light that the actress faced a similar incident last year. In August last year, the actor was harassed with WhatsApp calls from as many as eight different numbers. However, according to the police the arrest was made after thorough investigation of over two months. She said she was still in the dark about the status of that case and hoped things would be different now.

Senior police officials said they were tracking the international number and had no arrests have been done so far.
