Bar Council Goa president R.R Shingte has opposed at press conference raising issues with the proposed amendment of the New Motor Vehicle bill. He stated that the amount of compensation will be in limit. New Motor Vehicle Bill was introduced in the Lok sabha by central government and still on pending. In cases of motor vehicle accidents, an insurance company would be liable to pay an amount not exceeding Rs 10 lakh for a death and Rs 5 lakh for critical hurt to victims under the third party insurance policy. The amount awarded in previous cases has been till Rs 50 lakh and above and so the bill was opposed and letters were sent to the MP's, informed by Bar conseller convener Vitthal Konde.
