On Tuesday, December 8, Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami moved the Bombay High Court seeking a stay on Mumbai Police’s investigations into the alleged Television Rating Points (TRP) scam.

As per reports, in the petition filed by Goswami, the Editor-in-Chief alleged that Republic Media Network's Assistant Vice President Ghanshyam Singh who was earlier arrested on November 10 was “tortured, beaten and harassed” in custody. Singh was lodged at the Taloja Central Jail after Mumbai Police's Crime Branch arrested Goswami from his residence.

Moreover, the channel claimed that the entire controversy is nothing but an alleged witch hunt which is being conducted by the Maharashtra government. As a result, Goswami has asked for the transfer of the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or any other independent agency, according to the petition.

On the other hand, Goswami had earlier filed an application in his pending petition before the Bombay High Court requesting the court to stay any further investigation into the Anvay Naik suicide abetment case registered against him. As per reports, Goswami had also sought an interim order to restrain Alibaug police from issuing a charge sheet in the case and to transfer the investigation to the CBI or some other independent agency beyond the purview of Maharashtra government.

In the past, Mumbai Police reached Editor-In-Chief Arnab Goswami's residence, barged into his room before arresting him in connection with the suicide of interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik in 2018. The arrest had reverberated across the country and was strongly condemned by BJP leaders.
