On Tuesday, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) presented a chargesheet of 346 pages in Mumbai’s Dindoshi sessions court in regards to the rape and murder of a woman in Sakinaka between the night of September 9 and 10, stated reports.

Filed within 18 days, the chargesheet according to the police mentions that the accused who has been arrested was angry with the victim because she went outside the city for 15-20 days which resulted in a fight on that day.

According to reports, on September 13, the Mumbai police conducted a press conference wherein they had stated that both the victim and accused were acquainted with each other and it was a financial quarrel that resulted in a sexual assault that caused the woman’s death. However, reports state that the chargesheet doesn’t mention the financial issue.

Accounts elaborate that the accused who is arrested, Mohan Chouhan is 45 was acquainted with the woman for more than a year. He was upset with the victim because she was out of the city for 15-20 days which resulted in a fight between the two that night, claim the police.

Through the CCTV camera recording, that was over the crime scene, it can be seen that Chouhan and the victim met each other and soon started fighting. He then assaulted her on the footpath and put her inside the tempo, claim reports. The police add that whilst the CCTV camera doesn’t show what transpired inside the tempo, it continued for six minutes. It is alleged that the accused put a weapon in the victim’s private parts. A watchman who saw the occurrence told the police who took her to the Rajawadi hospital where she passed away the next day.

In addition to the CCTV camera, the authorities went through footage of six to seven other cameras to determine Chouhan’s identification. The crime scene was also recreated by them, with the accused being made to walk on the footpath till the scene of the crime, the video of which constitutes the forensic evidence. The forensic reports also include the accused’s clothes soaked in blood. The murder weapon wasn’t mentioned in the chargesheet, stated reports.

The chargesheet was filed under sections 302 (murder), 376 (rape), 323 (causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult) of the IPC and 3 (1) W and 3 (2) A of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
