Sameer Wankhede granted relief by High Court; No arrest until June 8

CBI has registered a case against former NCB director Sameer Wankhede in a corruption case. Sameer Wankhede has approached Bombay High Court against this. On May 22, a hearing was held in this matter in the High Court. The court has given relief to Sameer Wankhede from arrest. The hearing in this case will be held on June 8.


What exactly is the case?

When Sameer Wankhede was the Mumbai Divisional Director of NCB, his team raided the Cordelia cruise ship from Mumbai to Goa in October 2021. Actor Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan was also detained in this operation.


It has been alleged that Sameer Wankhede demanded a ransom of INR 25 crores to release him. The senior officials of NCB also conducted an investigation regarding this allegation. The case was then transferred to the CBI. After investigation, CBI registered a case against Sameer Wankhede. Sameer Wankhede then approached the High Court against it.


On Monday (May 22), a hearing was held in the High Court. The court has granted relief to Sameer Wankhede from arrest till June 8 on certain conditions.

What happened in court?

“Evidence related to the case should not be made available to the media. Otherwise, the CBI should take action," the High Court said.

So, “Cooperation in investigation and will not tamper with supplies. Also, the evidence related to the investigation will not be made available to the media," said Sameer Wankhede in the High Court.
