A sessions court on Friday sentenced the two accused in the murder case of Nepali actress Meenakshi Thapa for life imprisonment. The two accused Amit Jaiswal and his friend Preeti Surin kidnapped Meenakshi and demanded a ransom but she was murdered cruelly. The court has found them to be guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment due to the allegations made against them.

Earlier in 2012, Amit Jaiswal and his friend Preeti abducted Meenakshi and took her to Allahabad. The actress was killed and her body, without the head, was found in the sewage tank of a house in Allahabad. After kidnapping her, both the accused demanded ₹15 lakh ransom from the actress’ mother and sister.

Public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam demanded that the accused should be hanged without being shown any mercy. However, on Friday, the Mumbai sessions court has given life imprisonment to the two accused. Amit Jaiswal is a lawyer and Preeti is a junior artist.

The court found them guilty under Section 302 (Murder) and 364-A (Kidnapping for ransom) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
