Shiv Sena leader Rahul Shetty shot dead in Lonavala

According to the initial probe, Shetty was shot twice in the head and once in the chest. The Shiv Sena leader had informed the Lonavala city police station that his life was under threat.

Shiv Sena leader Rahul Shetty was shot dead in Lonavala on Monday around 9:30 in the morning. The police nabbed a suspect and are further investigating the matter. Shetty, son of former Shiv Sena leader Umesh Shetty, has served as the chief of party’s local unit in Lonavala. 

The police informed that Shetty (43) was attacked by two persons at a tea stall near his house. Shetty was shot thrice and was also stabbed in the neck by a sharp weapon. He was rushed to Parmar hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead. 

According to the initial probe, Shetty was shot twice in the head and once in the chest. The Shiv Sena leader had informed the Lonavala city police station that his life was under threat. 

Abhinav Deshmukh, superintendent of Pune rural police, informed that they have detained one suspect after recovering the CCTV footage and were probing the attack. 

Of the two persons, one fired three rounds at Shetty when he was outside his tea shop. It should be mentioned that his father was also shot dead nearly 35 years ago. 

In another incident, a man named Ganesh Naidu was murdered on Sunday night in Lonavala’s Hanuman Hill area. The police have denied any connection with the murder of Shetty and Naidu.
