A woman tries committing suicide outside Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan

The number of suicides by individuals awaiting justice in the state are increasing day by day. To add on to the series of unfortunate incidents, 60-year-old Sakhubai Vitthal Zhalte tried ending her life by consuming poison outside the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan building.


What is the story?

Zhalte had gone to the Mantralaya for some work but when she came out of the building, she went near the Vidhan Bhavan building and consumed poison. After consuming poison, she collapsed on the ground. People who were present near  Vidhan Bhavan's gate immediately rushed her to St George hospital where she was accompanied by her 35-year-old son.
Currently, the woman’s health condition is stable and the police are investigating the case.

Recently, a lot of individuals tried ending their life in and outside Mantralaya.

Suicide cases and attempts

  • On Thursday, February 8, 2018, 44-year-old murder convict Harshal Raote committed suicide by jumping off the fifth floor of the building. He was out on a month-long parole and the period was ending on Thursday. Police find a suicide note in which he had mentioned that he was unhappy with the jail sentence and wanted help from the State Home Department.
