A woman who was burnt by the jilted lover of her daughter succumbed to her burn injuries while undergoing treatment on Thursday night.
According to police information, the woman identified as Amravati Harijan (46) had objected to the eve-teasing of her daughter by one Deepak Jath who lives in the same locality. The deceased woman had slapped the youth after all her efforts to stop him from harassing her daughter went futile. The slapping incident had angered Jath who burnt Amravati Harijan by pouring petrol on her body on April 14.
The woman had sustained 95% burn injuries. Amravati Harijan’s neighbour Kanta Ekka tried to rescue her and in this attempt, she had also sustained 35% burn injuries. Kanta’s two-year-old daughter Angel had also sustained injuries in the incident and she died in Sion Hospital after a few days.
The police have arrested the accused who is now in the custody of Bandra police. The family members of Amravati has demanded maximum punishment to the accused for his dastardly act.
