On Monday, June 6, a woman (20) fought off her molester and got him arrested after he attempted to rob her inside a Mumbai local train. According to reports, the mishap transpired between Marine Lines and Churchgate railway station at nearly 6 pm.
Based on accounts, the student was in transit to her college classes. Churchgate Government Railway Police (GRP) officers were quoted in the narrative elaborating on the woman a resident of Worli boarded a ladies compartment from Prabhadevi station of a Churchgate local.
It has been reported that in the police statement she elucidated that she boarded the compartment since a woman along with two children were on it as well. Once the train crossed Charni Road station, the man boarded the running train and entered the ladies' compartment.
Narratives claim that he sat next to the other woman and her children who then alighted at Marine Lines station. Once the train was approaching Churchgate station, the woman began preparing to alight. When the train stopped at a signal between the two stations, the accused attempted to snatch her bag.
While she resisted the same, the accused, Pappu Gupta, a resident of Goregaon grabbed her hair, kissed her lips and snatched her bag. However, in the scuffle, both fell off the train onto the side of the tracks, reports mentioned.
Churchgate GRP, a police officer was quoted highlighting how when the accused attempted to flee with the victim's belongings, she began raising an alarm following which three men from the other compartment jumped on the track and caught the thief, accounts cited.
The men reportedly assisted the woman and alerted the police. The latter took her for treatment to JJ Hospital since she suffered minor injuries, the officer stated. The accused has been booked under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, narratives highlight.
