During this lockdown, people are watching a lot of OTT content to keep themselves entertained. OTT makers too are coming out with stories of varied subjects to be able to connect to the target audience and to provide something for everyone.

Today, Zee5 launched a new short movie called Heartbeat. The movie stars Rajeev Khandelwal and Anupriya Goenka. With this short film, Rajeev has dawned on the hat of a producer as well.

Coming over to the film, this 19-min long movie raises a very valid question on how do we define someone as being alive? Are you really living till your heart is beating even if the other organs in the body including the brain have shut down?

The movie explores the concept of mercy killing or euthanasia from a very different angle. Abhimanyu Jain played by Rajeev Khandelwal is a pilot in the Indian air force. His MIG plane crashed and as a result, he has been in a coma for three years. His wife Anupriya Goenka who plays the role of Sanvi Jain has put her life on hold and is still hoping that one day he will wake up from his coma and their life will be back on track. Is she wrong to keep waiting? And if yes, for how long should she wait before pulling the plug? Till she is completely broke paying the medical bills or is there any other yardstick to measure this?

There are complicated questions that the movie talks about without giving a right or wrong answer. Anupriya in her role of a wife that is still in love with her husband, who has been in a coma is effective. One can see her dilemma, her conviction all through. Rajeev too plays the part of a husband who wishes that his wife would move on really well.

The drawback of the movie is that some of the scenes are a little over dramatised. Overall, this is an emotional roller coaster that talks about a delicate subject.
