Education is considered to be one of the most important things in every child’s life. Aria Gupta, a student from Aditya Birla World Academy and a mentor of Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir (SSRVM) aims to raise funds of Rs. 1.50 lakh to provide tablets to 15 children in order to continue their education. Aria has been mentoring the students of SSRVM in robotics since the year 2018. The fundraiser started by Aria on the platform of ImpactGuru.com has so far raised Rs. 1.13 lakh. The single highest donation received on the crowdfunding campaign is Rs. 25,000.
In these uncertain times, education is the light towards the future for the students of SSRVM. The kids have a thirst for knowledge and creativity along with limitless potential in Stem Education, however, due to lack of access to education, they are missing out on opportunities to showcase their talent to the World. The knowledge circulation for every kid was in a good place during the pre-pandemic times. The online classes have limited the students as education took a backseat during the pandemic while people struggled for survival. Very few children of SSRVM had smartphones, which was one in 3 households. The rest were deprived of online education as their access to food and shelter was at risk and there was no possibility for them to buy smartphones for classes.
“The survival strategies for each one of us has been different in this pandemic period and a lot of us have lost jobs and the step towards education has been snatched from a lot of children. I am trying to make it accessible by providing them with tablets so their education is not hampered and teach them a lot of robotics in near future till the time for us to gather and study or celebrate is back on track,” says Aria by explaining the difference between the lifestyles of students.

· As part of the community outreach programme for the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) - an international robotics competition, Aria have been mentoring a team of students from the Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir School (SSRVM) in Dharavi since 2018 to design, build and program robots. The experience with SSRVM inspired Aria to study why slum children drop out of school. Following an analysis using machine learning algorithms, she wrote a research paper – “A Computational Analysis of School Factors for Reducing Dropouts in Mumbai’s Municipal Schools” which was published in the International Journal of Social Relevance and Concern (2021)
· Interned with IndiaStat – a leading data collection and analysis service provider – to collect data, conduct grassroots level surveys and study how primary education in urban slums can transform the lives of low-income families (2021)
