Officials have reportedly stated that the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams of the Maharashtra State Board that is slated to be conducted on March 5 and 7 are likely to be postponed, stated reports. This development comes in the aftermath of questions papers for these were up in flames on Wednesday, February 23 morning.

According to reports, a truck carrying them caught fire near Ahmednagar district's Sangamner Ghat. Sharad Gosavi, Chairperson of the Maharashtra State Board was quoted in an account by the Indian Express elaborating on how those were the question papers for one of the aggregate nine divisions.

Gosavi added that reprinting would have been an option if there were enough days left for the examination. He remarked that the question papers have to be opened in front of the students at the exam centres, thus the fire has compromised it.

The chairperson further uttered that a new set of question papers will have to be printed for all the divisions which would take time. More clarity is anticipated by Thursday.

Nearly 2.5 lakh questions of 25 subjects that included Marathi, Hindi, amongst other minor languages were burned in the fire. It has been reported that the question papers were meant for the Pune division and the truck was in transit when the mishap occurred.
