According to the latest reports, on Wednesday, February 23, the Supreme Court dismissed a plea seeking the cancellation of offline exams for grades 10 and 12 to be held by all state boards, CBSE, ICSE and National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS).
Based on accounts, the judiciary rejected the appeal and the bench observed that such a petition creates "false hope" and "confusion" amongst students who are preparing. The bench reportedly observed that students and the authorities should be allowed to do their jobs.
The plea is believed to have sought directions to the CBSE amongst other education boards that have proposed to conduct board exams for grades 10 and 12 offline, to curate alternate assessment modes, cited narratives.
Claims were made in accounts that while the petitioners hoped the Supreme Court would rule in the favour, students reportedly had little hope.
Ahead of the state board exams of SSC and HSC students, the Maharashtra government on February 14, in an official notification mentioned that unvaccinated students will be allowed to appear for the exam. However, schools and colleges have been asked to encourage students to get inoculated for their own safety.
While state board class 12 examinations are scheduled to be held from March 4 to 30. Those, for grade 10 it is slated to be held from March 15 to April 4.
