Amidst the continual scare of the coronavirus, several aspiring chartered accountants are likely to opt-out from appearing for the scheduled examinations touted to take place this month.

According to sources, several aspirants have alleged that their centres are in inexcusable and shabby conditions which is a worrying sign, especially during the pandemic. In addition, the students have been requesting for the postponement of these examinations as they have to visit the centres for four to eight days, unlike other public examinations, where it is usually a one-day affair.

Moreover, these examinations have been scheduled post-Diwali. As a result, there have been concerns regarding the spike in the cases of coronavirus, as observed post other festivities across the country. In the recent past, the hike in cases of coronavirus experienced post the celebrations of Ganesh Chaturthi are now reportedly on a decline. The number of patients suffering from the coronavirus in Mumbai had been on the rise since the month of September. In September, around 2,000 positive cases were reported every day. Currently, the number of patients testing positive, however, is on a decline.

On the other hand, On October 26, the rescheduled examinations for the regular students of the distance education wing of the University of Mumbai commenced. The Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) had earlier postponed their examinations after a “cyber-attack” on the exam server. In the past, the papers were to be held on October 6 and 7. However, IDOL postponed the final-year examinations for the arts, commerce and science streams.
