According to sources, Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to start CBSE board courses in 10 schools of the corporation soon.

Moreover, various experiments are carried out by the BMC in Mumbai to provide up-to-date and quality education to the students from less fortunate families in this competitive era. In view of the situation, for the upcoming academic year 2021-22, the municipal administration will start CBSE board schools.

These CBSE courses will be started in Bhavani Shankar Road School, Kane Nagar Municipal School, Pratiksha Nagar Municipal School, Tunga College new building, Rajawadi Municipal School, Aziz Bagh Municipal School, Dindoshi Municipal School, Janakalyan new building Salt School, Mulund Hariyali College, Municipal School, Vikhroli.

Out of these, two schools have been started on experimental principles, however, the parents of the school-going students have given a good response so far. As many as 2,000 students applied for a CBSE board school but only 300 students were admitted. Also, these schools were given the same facilities as other municipal schools.

As these schools are getting a good response, there was a demand that such schools should be started in other departments. Following this demand, the corporation decided to start CBSE board schools.

What sets them apart?

From the upcoming academic year 2021-22, admissions will be given in the schools of BMC CBSE Board. Eighty-five per cent of the students admitted in these schools will be drawn by lottery. Also, 10 per cent admission will be reserved as per the recommendation of the Mayor and five per cent admission will be reserved for the children of the BMC employees.

All the facilities that are provided to the students of other schools of Mumbai Municipal Corporation will be provided to these children. There will be a small infant class (Junior KG), a large infant class (Senior KG) and a detachment of each class from 1 to 6th standard.

Meanwhile, these schools are being transformed to look as attractive as private schools. In some places, repair work, reconstruction work, painting work has been undertaken. The look of many municipal schools has already been changed. Many schools have also been painted in bright, sunny colours.
